Day 1
Nusa Penida is a beautiful island that offers a wide range of activities and attractions for travellers to enjoy. Many people visit the island on a day trip from Bali but it is well worth staying for a longer period of time to enjoy everything the island has to offer. This guide will help you plan your stay on the island with an itinerary for 1 day that includes both famous attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities to ensure you get the most out of your trip.
Start your day by taking a fast boat from Sanur Beach to Toyapakeh on Nusa Penida. Once on the island, you can hire a local host to take you around the various sites on the island in an air-conditioned van. Take your time visiting all of the various sites on the island and don’t forget to bring your camera to snap some stunning photos!
A popular attraction on the island is the Rumah Pohon Nusa Penida Tree House which is a beautiful home made from natural materials. The best time to visit the home is around sunrise or sunset when you can enjoy the beautiful views from the house without being crowded by tourists!
Other highlights on the day are Kelingking Beach, Pasih Uug (Broken Beach), and Angel’s Billabong where you can swim in natural pools among a cliff landscape. You can also visit the less-visited Suwehan Beach for a stunning beach with white sand and rocky coastline.
Day 2
A few years ago, this cliff top spot became popular on Instagram thanks to photos of its unique curved coastline that resembles a T-Rex. Since then, it has become one of the most visited spots on Nusa Penida but that doesn’t mean it is crowded. In fact, it is still a very serene place with gorgeous rock pools and perfect blue water splashing against the rocks.
After admiring the view from Kelingking Cliff, head down to the beach below for a refreshing swim. Unlike most beaches on the island, the water here is a lot calmer and you can soak your feet in the warm rocks pools while watching the big waves crash at the cliff’s edge. The best part is that this spot is protected by tall cliffs on both sides so you feel totally secluded and it’s rare to see more than a few people here!
Next on your itinerary should be the Pura Mobil Temple, aka the Car Temple. This temple is weird and awesome in the same breath because its main shrine is carved to resemble a Volkswagen Beetle and a Jeep. It also looks like a giant cave and you can explore it by crawling through a hole in the side of the hill. You can even find some Hindu ceremonies being held here at certain times of the year!
Day 3
After a long day of exploring on the west side, you’ll be ready for some rest and relaxation. Head to the eastern side of Nusa Penida to discover Diamond Beach. This stunning beach is known for its white sandy beaches and clear blue waters. It also has some massive cliffs that make for a really cool view.
After taking a few photos at this beautiful spot, you can grab some lunch at one of the beachfront warungs. Then, you can take some time to relax on the beach and watch the sunset. This is a perfect way to end your day on the island!
The next morning, you’ll want to wake up early and catch the ferry back to Bali. This is a quick ride and should only take about an hour or so. Once you’re back in Bali, make sure to check out some of the other things to do on Nusa Penida like hiking or snorkeling!
Nusa Penida is a very safe place to visit, but as with all travel, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and follow common safety tips. Violent crime is almost unheard of, and petty crime is pretty rare as well. Be sure to wear a helmet when riding a motorbike and always keep your belongings close by when walking around on the island.
Day 4
The final day of this Nusa Penida tour takes in the eastern side of the island. This includes Atuh Beach, which is a great place to kick back and relax on the fine white sand while sipping on a fresh coconut. It is also a good spot to swim if the weather permits. A short drive from here is Goa Giri Putri, a temple cave that is worth visiting if you have the time. Entrance is 20,000 IDR and you will need to wear a sarong when entering as it is a sacred location.
After this, head to Broken Beach which is another popular hotspot on the island. This area used to be a massive cave and from an aerial view looks like a giant crater with rocks and water inside. It is a spectacular sight and often features in Instagram photos of the island. Nearby is Angel’s Billabong, a quiet blue rock pool where waves break against the cliff’s edge.
This is a fantastic spot for sunset and also provides a few stunning snorkelling opportunities. If you have the energy and a drone, you can rent one here to get amazing footage of the location. If you have time, consider staying at Rumah Pohon Tree House for an overnight stay to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. The rooms are basic but the views and location make it worth it!
