Women’s Leggings

Leggings have been worn by women and men for warmth and comfort for centuries. Separate hose worn by men in Europe in the 13th through 16th centuries were a form of leggings, as were the linen pantalettes that girls and women wore underneath crinolines in the mid-19th century. Cowboys wore leggings made of buckskin to protect their legs from chapping from riding, wear and tear on their pants, and bites from snakes or ticks. Today, leggings are typically casual garments. Tights are dressier, often worn as a layer under skirts or dresses. Leggings and tights are available in a wide range of colors, patterns, and textures. Some are even see-through, but most are not.

The best leggings are comfortable, soft against the skin and easy to pair with a variety of top lengths and styles. The fit is also important – try them on and see how thick the fabric feels against your skin. If you can’t comfortably fit more than one finger between the leggings and your skin, they’re too thin for your liking.
